INFORMATION
GENERAL
MELLEN Elevator furnaces can be designed for a wide range of temperatures and hot zone dimensions. For lower temperature operation (up to 1450ºC), we have the EF and EV series elevator systems. Higher temperature operation (up to 1800ºC) utilizes ES and ED series elevator systems.
The MELLEN EF series furnace system operates at temperatures up to 1250ºC in air. The EV series furnace system operates at temperatures up to 1450ºC in air. The ES series furnace system operates at temperatures up to 1550ºC in air. The ED series furnace system operates at temperatures up to 1800ºC in air.
Different maximum temperatures utilize different grades of heating elements to rapidly achieve the desired temperature while keeping the cost to a minimum. Each elevator furnace utilizes an energy efficient insulation package consisting of graded, ceramic fiber high-temperature insulation. The walls and hearth are made of rugged firebrick with a thermocouple port in the rear wall for temperature measurements.
The elevator furnace system is a bottom-loading furnace with built-in power supply. Each power supply is designed to operate the specific grade of elements in the system. Power supply components such as controllers, over temperature alarms, and additional safety features can be modified or added upon request.
The elevator assembly includes an electric driven motor control for raising and lowering the insulated hearth. The elevator features a speed controller that allows the user to adjust the speed, and motion lights to indicate when the elevator is in use. This allows the user to use extremely slow elevator speeds. The speed is electronically controlled to allow for smooth motion and accurate, repeatable travel time. The mobile elevator is capable of lifting over 500 pounds of work. Safety switches allow for automatic stop when the furnace elevator is opening and closing. The elevator speed can be changed before, during, and after the run for optimal ease of use.

HEATING ELEMENTS
The EF series furnace utilizes Flat Plate heating elements capable of 1250ºC in air. Multiple wire types are used to ensure rapid and efficient heat control of the system at any temperature. Temperatures up to 1100C use nickel chrome alloy element wire, up to 1200ºC uses iron chromium aluminum alloy, and up to 1250ºC uses APM wire.
The EV series furnace utilizes Vulcan heating elements capable of 1450ºC in air. Multiple wire types are used to ensure rapid and efficient heat control of the system at any temperature. Temperatures up to 1100ºC use nickel chrome alloy element wire, up to 1200ºC use iron chromium aluminum alloy, up to 1250ºC use APM wire, up to 1325ºC use heavy gauge iron chromium aluminum alloy, and temperatures up to 1450ºC use platinum wire.
The ES series furnace utilizes Silicon Carbide heating elements capable of 1550ºC in air. These elements operate with low surface-watt loading for longer life at elevated temperatures. They are strategically engineered to maximize element life without compromising uniformity of heating within the furnace.
The ED series furnace utilizes Moly Disilicide heating elements capable of 1800ºC in air. The heating elements are located on the four sides of the furnace chamber to maximize uniformity. The elements in the ED series have specifically engineered surface-watt loading for longer life at elevated temperatures. The maximum temperature is dependent on the grade of the heating elements: Grade I at 1600ºC; Grade II at 1700ºC; Grade III at 1800ºC. The heating elements are field-replaceable for ease of maintenance and are precisely placed to radiate heat uniformly to the internal chamber.
Power requirements can vary based on temperature, diameter, and heated length of the furnace. Estimated power requirements will be provided during the quoting process.
CONTROLLER
